A city imagined as a lotus. A textile built, dot by dot.

THULI, the second edit from our Song of the South series, journeys into the temple city of Madurai and the enduring craft tradition of Sungudi. In Tamil, 𝘡𝘩𝘢𝘭π˜ͺ means a drop, a speck, a single dot β€” the smallest unit of presence. Here, it becomes both motif and method.

Borrowing from the dotted matrix of Sungudi textiles and the weathered pastel palette of Madurai’s sunlit gopurams, the collection explores repetition, rhythm, and structure through airy silhouettes designed for the South Indian summer. Blush pink, shrine-pool teal, palmshade green, and incense-haze lilac β€” colours drawn from Madurai’s temple landscapes, drift between sunlight, stone and water.

Like dots gathering slowly into pattern, THULI unfolds as a quiet meditation on craft, colour, and the beauty of repetition.

THULI begins with a dot.Β In the Sungudi tradition of Madurai, tiny sections of fabric are patiently pinched by hand, tied, dyed, and revealed, forming the dotted matrix that has defined the craft for generations.

Madurai Blush,Β A soft pink Sungudi style inspired by the sun-washed pastels of Madurai’s temple landscape. Crafted in breathable cotton with fluid gathers and gentle ruffle details, the piece is designed to move lightly through long summer days.

Inspired by the quiet teal of Madurai’s sacred waters, Shrine Pool pairs effortless movement with the airy comfort of cotton Sungudi.

Temple Lilac brings together the quiet romance of lilac and the ease of summer dressing. Crafted in breathable cotton Sungudi with delicate ruffle details, it is designed for days that call for lightness, comfort, and understated elegance.

Dappled Palmshade takes its cue from the greens of Madurai’s shaded courtyards and swaying palms. Crafted in cotton Sungudi, it pairs an easy silhouette with playful multicoloured ruffle details for effortless summer dressing.
